The Mental Health Hotline is an information and referral service. It is not a substitute for emergency services.

If you’re looking for mental health help in Pittsburgh, the reason could be almost anything: depression that has flattened everything out, anxiety that won’t switch off, drinking or using more than you meant to, a diagnosis you’re still learning to live with, or a stretch that has simply gotten heavier than you can carry on your own. You don’t need a referral or a diagnosis to start asking, and none of it needs to reach an emergency before it counts.

Pittsburgh’s crisis help mostly runs through one place, which makes it easier to find than in a lot of cities. resolve Crisis Services, run by UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital with Allegheny County, answers the phone around the clock, sends mobile teams anywhere in the county, and keeps a walk-in center open 24/7 at 333 N. Braddock Ave. in Point Breeze, where you don’t need an appointment. It’s free to every county resident, insured or not. The county says a 988 call from a local area code is routed to resolve as well, so either number gets you to the same people.

Cost is the other wall people hit. resolve doesn’t charge, and if you have Medical Assistance, which the county calls HealthChoices, Community Care Behavioral Health at 800-553-7499 can help you find ongoing care. If you just want to talk with someone who has been there, the county’s peer support line at 866-661-9276 is open every day into the early hours. There’s more on mental health insurance coverage if that’s the sticking point.

You don’t need to know which of these is right before you reach out. The figures further down describe Pennsylvania as a whole; they aren’t a description of you. Whether you’re looking for yourself or for someone you care about, the Mental Health Hotline can help you sort through the options at 866-903-3787. Where to Get Help in Pittsburgh

These are the numbers and addresses worth having. Some are for the worst night of your life and some are for a Tuesday afternoon when you just can’t face the week, and both of those are reasons to call. If you’re not sure what happens when you dial, here’s what 988 actually does.

Mental Health in Pennsylvania, by the Numbers

The CDC’s city-level estimates used elsewhere in this series aren’t available for Pennsylvania, so these three figures describe the state as a whole. They set context for the resources above rather than explaining any one person’s situation.

of Pennsylvania adults had a mental illness last year
0 %
of adults had a major depressive episode last year
0 %
of adults received mental health treatment in 2024
0 %

Figures come from SAMHSA’s National Surveys on Drug Use and Health, 2023–2024 state estimates for adults 18 and over, published in 2025 and 2026. They are statewide, not specific to Pittsburgh: Pennsylvania isn’t covered by the 2023 survey data behind the CDC’s city estimates. Among young adults aged 18 to 25, the mental illness figure rises to 34.7 percent. Model-based estimates describe a population, not any one person in it.

Working out where to start is often the hardest part, especially when you’re already worn down and the list of numbers is long. The Mental Health Hotline can talk through what’s going on and help you find the right next step in Pittsburgh, at any hour. Call 866-903-3787 when you’re ready.
