Louisiana carries a heavy mental health burden. Around 650,000 adults and 245,000 children in the state live with a diagnosable mental health condition, and the Louisiana Department of Health puts the share of adults affected each year at close to 22%.
Asking for help takes real work, and the thought of describing what you are feeling to someone you have never met can be daunting. A Louisiana helpline lets you talk it through confidentially, without giving your name, and find out what care is available near you.
Below is a list of Louisiana hotlines and resources you can reach out to — whether you are going through a hard stretch, need a diagnosis and treatment, or are worried about someone you love.

What to Expect When You Call
Not knowing what happens after you dial is a common reason people put off calling. Here is what a call to the Mental Health Hotline looks like:
- An automated assistant may answer first. It asks a few questions to understand what kind of help you are looking for. Someone on our team may also speak with you.
- You decide how much to share. You can give your first name or nothing at all. What you say is confidential.
- No pressure and no judgment. You will not be talked into anything, and nothing about your situation is treated as a failing.
- Guidance, not diagnosis. The Mental Health Hotline does not diagnose conditions or provide therapy. It helps you understand what your options are.
- You leave with something concrete. That might be information about support groups, local treatment options or how coverage works in Louisiana.
