North Dakota Mental Health Hotlines

For North Dakota, the KFF assessment of Mental Health Care Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs) determined that the state is meeting only 22.3% of the mental health needs of residents. That disparity leaves many North Dakotans without immediate access to the care they need when experiencing struggles with their mental health. While traditional North Dakota mental health resources may be lacking in some areas of the state, access to a ND crisis line can make all the difference for someone in the middle of a mental health emergency, buying them time and helping ease the burden until more thorough care is found.

Mental health hotlines offer a friendly, sympathetic ear when you need a safe and confidential space to share your experience and are often able to connect you to resources in your area you may not be aware of. Mental health difficulties can be hard to address on your own, so reaching out for support is a big step toward equipping yourself with the tools and coping skills you need to improve your life.

Mental Health Hotline

When you need a trained professional to help you navigate the complexities of your mental health journey, the Mental Health Hotline is available 24-7. You’ll be connected with a mental health specialist who’ll listen to your experience and offer encouragement as well as information on available resources and recovery options.

NAMI HelpLine

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) offers a helpline you can call between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. Eastern time, Monday through Friday. While it’s not a crisis hotline, the organization is staffed with volunteers, many of whom have unique insight from their own experiences with mental health struggles. You’ll reach a caring, sympathetic listener who’s trained to assess your situation and offer you referrals to resources available through NAMI and local affiliates.

ND Crisis Line Options

988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline

Calling this North Dakota crisis line will connect you with a trained counselor at a local crisis center who’s ready to listen to you and offer support for the struggles you’re experiencing. If resources are available to help with your situation, your crisis counselor will provide you with information on how to access them. For serious situations that require a more personal approach, the crisis counselors can dispatch a mobile crisis team to meet you where you are. The team will assess risk, stabilize the crisis, help connect you to resources and services and provide support afterward. If no one is available to take your call at a local crisis center, it will be routed to a national crisis center.
