The city of Sioux Falls is home to more than 202,000 people, which makes it a rare concentration of people in an otherwise largely rural area of the country. Because the area is so rural, delivery of mental health resources in Sioux Falls is much more complicated than it typically is in more densely populated regions, especially for long-term residential care units, which are sorely lacking in the area.
Fortunately, even though nearly 1 in 3 South Dakotans have some form of mental illness, you can get help over the phone in finding Sioux Falls mental health services at low or no cost, as well as crisis services and counseling support. The resources listed here exist to help people living with mental illness and their loved ones find and access national and local mental health resources in their time of need.
