⚠ SAFETY NOTICE
If you or someone you love is in immediate danger, call 911.
If you’re having thoughts of suicide or are in emotional crisis, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
The Mental Health Hotline offers support and resources and is not a substitute for emergency services.
Of the 100 U.S. cities in this series, Bridgeport ranks first for the share of adults who say they lack the social and emotional support they need. Not tenth, not in the top quarter. First. It also has the 6th highest uninsured rate, and one adult in four rates their own health as fair or poor.
Set against that, the share of Bridgeport adults who have been told by a professional that they have depression is lower than in 85 of those cities. That combination is worth sitting with. It is unlikely that a city this isolated and this uninsured has less depression than most. It is more likely that fewer people here have ever reached a professional who could name it.
What follows is built around that gap, and several of these resources exist for people who simply need someone to talk to. Every phone number was checked against the organization’s own published information. For resources across the rest of the state, see our Connecticut mental health resources page.

Bridgeport Mental Health Statistics to Know
These figures come from the CDC’s PLACES program, which models health estimates for individual cities. Each is shown against the other 99 cities in this series, because a percentage on its own does not tell you whether it is unusual.
CDC PLACES 2025 release, crude prevalence among Bridgeport adults, modeled from 2023 survey data. Lack of social and emotional support 33.2% (95% CI 30.3–36.2); uninsured 21.4% (19.3–23.5) among adults aged 18–64; ever told by a health professional they have a depressive disorder 17.6% (15.5–19.7). Also of note: 39.4% report feelings of loneliness, 9th highest of these cities, and 25.2% rate their health as fair or poor, 13th highest. Ranks are against the 100 U.S. cities in this series, which are not ranked by size. Median across those cities: 25.8% lacking support, 11.6% uninsured, 22.6% depression. For more on how depression is recognized and treated, or on what happens when you call 988, see our guides.
Help Is Here
If you feel like you have no one to talk to, the data says you are in company here, and that is not a small thing to know. A third of the adults in this city say the same. Some of the lines above exist for exactly that, with no crisis required and nothing to qualify for.
If you are not sure where to start, the Mental Health Hotline can help you find the right first step. Call 866-903-3787 to talk through what you need. You can also reach the NAMI HelpLine during weekday hours for resource referrals.
Call when you’re ready.
