Pennsylvania is home to world-class cities, mountains, farmland and beautiful Amish country. No matter what you’re looking for, the state has it. But one thing no place can offer is a complete haven from mental health challenges. They’re everywhere, and they’re growing in number all over the country.
According to a 2021 National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) study, more than one out of five Americans lives with a mental illness. The number of people with a mental health condition in Pennsylvania exceeds 1.8 million, which is akin to the population of six Pittsburghs. A quarter of Pennsylvanians suffering from anxiety, depression or another mental health condition say they don’t know where to turn for help.
No matter who you are, there’s always help available in Pennsylvania if you or someone you love is dealing with a mental health challenge. Reach out to one of the following state-level or national resources if you need help or someone to talk to.
